Arthur and Nina Zwebell
Arthur and Nina Zwebell arrived in Los Angeles in 1921 from the Midwest. He was a self-educated inventor and designer. She was an avid musician who graduated from Northwestern University in 1914. During their short but productive career, the Zwebells built eight courtyard apartment complexes in the Hollywood area. Working as a team, Arthur concentrated on the court exteriors while Nina focused on the interiors. After the housing market collapse in 1929, the Zwebells worked as set designers and then later as furniture designers and producers. Nina died a year after Arthur in 1974.
